Betaflight 4.6 Complete Setup Guide
Betaflight 4.6 introduces several significant improvements over previous versions, including native ExpressLRS SPI support, faster gyro processing, and a redesigned CMS menu system. This guide walks you through the complete setup process.
What Is New in Betaflight 4.6
- Native ELRS SPI Support — No more custom builds or workarounds
- 20% Faster Gyro Processing — Lower latency for improved flight feel
- Redesigned OSD CMS — More intuitive menu navigation
- Improved GPS Rescue — Better altitude hold and return-to-home accuracy
Flashing Betaflight 4.6
Before flashing, always back up your current configuration. Use the Betaflight Configurator (version 10.10.0 or later) and select the correct target for your flight controller. Enable “Full Chip Erase” for a clean installation.
PID and Filter Configuration
The default Betaflight 4.6 tune is significantly improved out of the box. For most 5-inch builds, the stock PIDs provide excellent performance. Advanced pilots can use the new slider-based tuning interface for quick adjustments without typing numbers.
ELRS SPI Setup (New!)
This is the headline feature. Flight controllers with built-in ExpressLRS SPI receivers now work natively. Simply select “SPI RX” in the Receiver tab, choose “ExpressLRS” as the protocol, and bind through the Betaflight Configurator — no external module required.
Final Checks Before Flying
- Verify motor direction and order in the Motors tab
- Check failsafe behavior — test with props off
- Confirm OSD elements are displaying correctly
- Do a short hover test in angle mode first
Always fly with a spotter and follow local regulations.
