FPV Drone Regulations in 2026: What Every Pilot Must Know
Flying FPV drones has never been more popular — or more regulated. As airspace becomes busier and remote identification becomes standard, understanding the rules that apply to your flying is no longer optional. Regulations vary significantly by country, but several themes are consistent worldwide, and staying informed is the difference between a legal flight and a costly fine.
Registration and Remote ID
In the United States, the FAA requires most drones over 250 grams to be registered, and nearly all recreational and commercial aircraft are now expected to comply with Remote ID rules — broadcasting identification and location information while in flight. In the European Union, similar requirements apply under EASA regulations, where drones are categorized by weight and operational risk. The consistent theme is that authorities want every aircraft in the sky to be identifiable and traceable.
For FPV pilots, the practical implication is that weight matters.
