Betaflight 4.7 brings a significant update to the most widely used FPV flight controller firmware, with improvements spanning flight performance, radio link integration, and display support. Released in mid-2026, this version refines the flight experience while adding compatibility with the latest hardware on the market. Whether you are a seasoned racer or a casual freestyle pilot, the changes in 4.7 are worth understanding before your next build or upgrade.

The development team focused on three major areas: improved bidirectional DShot telemetry accuracy, tighter ExpressLRS integration, and expanded HD OSD support for digital video systems. Each of these changes has practical implications for how your quad flies and what information you see in your goggles.

Enhanced Bidirectional DShot and RPM Filtering

Betaflight 4.7 improves the accuracy of RPM telemetry data coming back from ESCs over bidirectional DShot. The new filtering algorithm reduces jitter in the reported motor RPM values, which directly improves the effectiveness of RPM-based notch filters. Cleaner RPM data means the dynamic notch filter can more precisely track motor frequency harmonics, removing more noise without cutting into useful PID frequencies.

For pilots running high-KV motors on 6S, this change is particularly welcome. The narrower notch filters enabled by cleaner RPM data leave more headroom for aggressive PID tunes without amplifying motor noise. If you have been fighting mid-throttle oscillations on a high-performance build, upgrading to 4.7 and re-tuning may resolve issues that were previously limited by RPM telemetry accuracy.

ExpressLRS 4.0 Integration

ExpressLRS 4.0 introduces full-resolution channels and higher packet rates, and Betaflight 4.7 is the first firmware to support these features natively. The CRSF protocol has been updated to carry 12-bit channel data instead of the previous 10-bit resolution, giving noticeably smoother stick response — especially on throttle and yaw, where the extra resolution is most apparent to pilots.

The new preset system includes optimized configurations for ELRS 4.0 at various packet rates. For racing at 1000Hz, the preset locks in the recommended filters and PID loop timing automatically. For long-range cruising at 150Hz, it switches to a more conservative filter set that maximizes range at the expense of some stick responsiveness. This eliminates much of the guesswork that previously came with matching radio settings to flight controller tuning.

HD OSD Improvements for Digital Systems

Digital FPV systems like DJI O4, Walksnail Avatar HD, and HDZero now benefit from expanded OSD element support in Betaflight 4.7. The firmware can now transmit additional telemetry elements including individual cell voltages for up to 8S packs, GPS ground speed and distance from home in configurable units, and custom warning thresholds that trigger visual alerts in the goggles.

Font rendering has also been improved for high-resolution displays. OSD elements are now anti-aliased on HD systems, making the text sharper and easier to read at a glance. Custom font uploads are supported for pilots who want to personalize their OSD layout beyond the built-in options.

Upgrade Considerations

Before flashing Betaflight 4.7, back up your current configuration with the CLI diff command. The upgrade process retains most settings, but filter defaults have changed and should be reviewed. After flashing, apply the default tuning preset for your build type from the Presets tab, then restore your custom settings selectively — do not blindly paste your entire old diff, as some parameters have been renamed or deprecated.

Motor protocol should be set to DShot300 or DShot600 with bidirectional DShot enabled for best results. If you are flying an older ESC that does not support bidirectional DShot, you can still run 4.7 but will not benefit from the improved RPM filtering. Check your ESC firmware version and update to Bluejay or AM32 if your hardware supports it.
