Staying informed isn’t just about avoiding fines; it’s about being a responsible pilot who helps preserve access to the hobby for everyone.

The most significant regulatory framework affecting FPV pilots worldwide remains the FAA’s Remote ID rule in the United States, while similar systems have rolled out in the EU, UK, Canada, and Australia. If you haven’t checked the requirements recently, there’s a good chance something has changed that affects your flying. Let’s break down what matters for recreational FPV pilots in 2026.

Remote ID: Compliance Is Now Mandatory

As of the FAA’s enforcement deadline, all drones weighing over 250 grams that are flown outdoors in US airspace must comply with Remote ID requirements. For FPV pilots, this means one of three compliance paths. The first and most common is a Standard Remote ID broadcast module — a small add-on device that broadcasts your drone’s ID, position, altitude, velocity, and the location of your ground station via WiFi or Bluetooth.
