Long range FPV requires a completely different approach from freestyle. The 7-inch platform with Li-Ion batteries is the standard for 15-25 minute flights.
7-Inch Components
Motors: 2807-2808 stator, 1300-1500KV on 6S. Props: 7x4x3 tri-blade. ESC: 45-55A BLHeli_32. FC: F7/H7 with barometer for GPS Rescue altitude hold. VTX: 1W minimum output. GPS: BN-880Q or Matek M10Q-5883 with compass and Galileo+GPS+GLONASS.
Li-Ion Battery Strategy
Samsung 40T, Molicel P42A, or Sony VTC6 21700 cells in 6S2P configuration yield 6000-8400mAh at similar weight to a 6S 1800mAh LiPo. Never punch out on Li-Ion — voltage sag will trigger failsafe. Fly smoothly with gradual throttle changes.
GPS Rescue Setup
Betaflight 4.5+ GPS Rescue is mandatory. Minimum 8 satellites. Climb to 50m above obstacles. Return speed 15-20 m/s. Always test at 200m on full battery before attempting real long-range flight.
